Awoke to the sound of rain hammering on the roof of the boat, making for a very lethargic start to the day. Looking at the weather forecast the rain will lift at about 2 or 3 in the afternoon, so the plan is to go into Whitchurch for wellies and move off after the rain has passed
A little light cleaning, tidying and organising
An early lunch, the rain has lifted, we walk into town. Vera finds wellington boots in a hardware store and we also get a new door mat for home but will be useful in the meantime on the boat
Greenend Dental Practice is taking on new NHS patients. So unusual these days that I just have to share this sight
Finally cast off just after 3, aiming for Colemere. The sun is out and we are passing through beautiful and very green countryside
I hadn't really studied today's route, apart from noting a lack of locks, so a little surprised to encounter the first of three lift bridges on our route today
We have found the Captain's chair! It's a bit wobbly, but means I can sit down and get a clear view of the passage ahead.
We pass a section where the canal bank is being repaired. Apparently badgers have been digging their sets in the embankment, nearly causing the canal to drain away. This has led to closures and long delays, but we sail through without any problem
The route is very peaceful and tree lined
We don't reach Colemere until 7pm, but it's one of our best mooring spots to date
The sun slowly sets as we sit in the bow of the boat with an evening glass of wine. So calm, so peaceful
The fire has made the boat really cozy, and we finally go inside for food, the crossword, games, and chat
